30th Sunday of Year B

Sacrament of the Sick

This will take place at all Masses this weekend.

Sunday Club for Confirmation

The Sunday Club will begin today and will also be on 1st and 8th November from 9 - 9.50am. The Confirmation will take place on Thursday 12th November at 7.30pm.

Mission Sunday

Many thanks for the very generous collection of £1355 last week for the special work of the Missions.

 

St Joseph's Youth Group

The Youth Group is open to children of the Parish and their friends from P6 - S1. The Group's first meeting this term will be this evening (Sunday 25th October) from 7pm - 8.30pm, £3, in the scout hall next to Lennox Park. Membership forms are available from the sacristy.

 

Parish Pastoral Council

Just a reminder that the meeting of the PPC will take place on Monday 26th October at 7.30pm in the main hall. Please enter by main hall door.

St Joseph's Justice and Peace Group

There will be a meeting of this group on Tuesday 27th October at 7.30pm in the Winning Room. Please enter by back kitchen door.

Reading Group

The next meeting of the Reading Group will take place on Thursday 29th October at 7.30pm in the Winning Room. The book for this month is "What is the Point of Being a Christian" by Timothy Radcliffe OP (Burns & Oatts, London, 2005). All welcome.

Concert for Erne

A celebration of the life of Erne Parkin with music, verse and memories at Milngavie Town Hall on Saturday 23rd January 2010. Tickets £7 now available from the Iron Chef or by telephoning 956 5007 or 563 7767.

 

St Joseph's Bumper Christmas Raffle

Donations would be gratefully received for our Bumper Christmas Raffle, particularly bottles, cans, biscuits, etc, to make up hampers. Donations can be left in the Sacristy or contact Cathy on 956 4487. Draw will take place early December. Many thanks.

Life Torchlight Vigil

This year's Torchlight Vigil and Prayer Service takes place on Monday 26th October at 6.00pm for the 6.30pm Prayer Service at George Square. This will be followed by the usual Torchlight Procession to St Andrew's Cathedral in Clyde Street. There will not be a Church Prayer Service but the Archdiocesan Centre will be open for a cup of tea for anyone not in a hurry to get home.

Thinking Allowed

An informal lecture entitled "The Art of Resistance Everywhere We are Surrounded by Death"  with writer and broadcaster Richard Halloway, will take place at Cairns Church on Thursday 29th October at 7.30pm for 8.00pm. SPRED Silver Jubilee

Remembrance Mass

....on Sunday 1st November at St Agnes' Church, Lambhill at 3pm for the faithful departed whose final committal took place t St Kentigern's Cemetery, The Western Necropolis Cemetery, Lambhill Cemetery and Glasgow Crematorium. Tea/coffee afterwards in St Agnes's Church Hall. All welcome.

AGAP

Catholic Youth Service, Scotland

St Nicholas Care Fund Open Evening

Archbishop Conti and the Trustees of the Fund invite you to join them in the Eyre Hall, Curial Offices, 196 Clyde Street from 7pm - 9pm. During the evening you will hear stories from beneficiaries of grants, find out what the Fund has been supporting in your area. Justice and Peace Commission

"Caritas in Veritate" (Charity in Truth): a talk by Fr John Gannon on the new social encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI t St Peter's Church Hall, Partick on 9th November at 7.30pm. all welcome.

Poppy Scotland

Once again the season of Remembrance is approaching and preparations are under way for the Scottish Poppy Appeal. Besides street collections, our volunteer in Milngavie organizes a house to house collection in part of the town. She has a small team of volunteers who assist her with this effort and is looking for a few ore willing helpers. The collection takes place mainly between 26th October and 7th November and if you would like to help, please contact Ian C Douglas on 942 9373.

Catholics and the Press

An invitation to a free public meeting on Saturday 31st October from 10am to 12.30pm organized by the Newman Association and the Scottish Catholic Observer at Glasgow University Chaplaincy, Turnball Hall.  There will be a panel of speakers and time for audience questions and discussion. All welcome

Holy City 2009-2010

Holy City is the Glasgow city centre monthly, ecumenical workshop and worship event. It is enabled by the Wild Goose Resources Group of the Iona Community, in collaboration with a motley crew of Glaswegian citizens.
