Post-war years
After the war, there were many new housing developments in and around Milngavie and its population virtually doubled by the 1960s. A new Catholic Primary school was opened in 1961 in Craigdhu Road, where St Joseph’s Primary is still located.

The post war housing developments saw a shift in population from the Mugdock Road and Woodland Street tenements to the new housing developments on the north side of the village, leaving St Joseph’s church removed from the natural population centre.

When the congregation of St Luke’s Church of Scotland moved to a new building in Kirk Street, the possibility of St Joseph’s moving in to the vacated building on Station Road was discussed and energetically pursued.

On the Feast of St Joseph, March 19th, 1980, Archbishop Winning opened the refurbished church. In the past few years, we have built our own new parish hall which sits alongside St Joseph’s church on Station Road, providing a social hub for our small but vibrant Catholic community.
