Our 150th Anniversary
The
700 people who attend Mass each Sunday here in St Joseph’s owe much
to the efforts and sacrifices of priests and parishioners over the past
150 years.
Thanks to their service and dedication, we were able to
celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Parish in 2006.
Throughout these years, parishioners of St Joseph's have played an important part in the development of Milngavie itself.
Our 150th Anniversary souvenir booklet, "A Parish to be proud of",
documents these years in considerable detail through colourful
illustration, archive photographs and historical documents.
The booklet provides
a fascinating account of the historical, social and industrial changes
which transformed Milngavie from a small manufacturing village into
what it is today.
Set against this are the struggles and achievements of priests and parishioners over the years.
Old
photographs, personal writings and accounts provide a rare insight
into the background and personalities of the many clergy and parishioners who were a driving force behind
developments in our community.
More recent pictures and illustrations feature parishioners active in current initiatives and
developments in St Joseph’s today.
The booklet provides a colourful account of
the many events which took place in 2006 to mark our 150th Anniversary
year.
